CompSoc talks and workshops can be attended free of charge by anyone, but membership brings several further benefits.
Joining CompSoc costs £5.00 for one year. This gives you free access to our library of computing books, and allows you an account on our server.
This server account allows you up to 5gb of storage space, and includes web hosting with further features available on demand. There is more information available here, and some general server history here. Note that whilst we require you to sign an AUP, there is no need to do so in advance.
We also offer server accounts for other student societiees, at £10.00 per year. This provides another email account (including IMAP and forwarding support), and increased webspace over what the ITS allow.
You can join in the following, easy ways:
- Come along, bearing cash or a cheque to one of our meetings and speak to a member of the exec.
- Come along, bearing cash or a cheque to one of our Wednesday lunchtime socials [location given by email currently] from about 1.00pm every Wednesday during termtime.
- Place a cheque (for £5.00) and signed Acceptable Use Policy (see below)in the CompSoc pigeonhole in the DSU, then send us an email stating who you are and that you'd like to join. We'll do the rest.
- Come to the pub on Tuesday bearing a signed AUP and buy an exec member two pints of beer.
Cheques should be made payable to DSU societies account with Durham University Computing Society in the memo or on the back. We look forward to meeting you.
