Using the latest version of mlmmj on Debian Etch.
The Debian Etch package has some problems since it was orphend before
Etch was release thus the package hasn't kept up with the latest
version. It's far better to just build the latest version.

something that you should be proud of.

it all off.
There exist only two numbers; 1, 0 and infinity. All others have no
real meaning and thus don't exist. Well maybe just one number.
Actually, who needs numbers.
After spending my time in a lecture wondering how many points I have
scored in The Lecture Game, I felt it was only right I had it included
on this page. You can find The Lecture Game and other related games at
http://www.empty-domain.com/lecture/.
If you and your mates have some scores then email me them, and I'll
create a league table. Assuming I get enough of them that is.

This is when toast got a slashdotting on 1st of April 2003. Although
lots of people thought it was an April Fool joke, low and behold the
joke was one them, as it's a fully functional programming language.
Through out the day toast got a steady 8 hits per second. Which is a
lot higher than normal. Although it was only a light load. I don't
know how long slashdot.org articles last but
http://developers.slashdot.org/developers/03/04/01/0332202.shtml?tid=156
is it.
Most of use see school as being very formulised and rigid. We see
this as a good thing. That we have many exams to prove our worth. That
we produce Civil Servents not free thinkers. Are we really going about
this the right way, anyway have a read of
>this<.
This is no good, since the link is broken. The school still exists
but I can't find the same article. So much for website redesigns,
they always seem to give you a net lose of information.
This is great! It sums up this countries mob culture quite well
www.thinkofthechildren.co.uk And don't you think that girl in the
top left hand corner is good. "COME ON THEN!"
some webcam moments
This where I keep those DanCam(tm) moment of people coming into my
room and me taking random pictures of them. Eeek, what a mess
I should sort them out. Oh a bit like this webpage.
Uni webspace There's
not much in here, but if you want to send me an encrypted e-mail, file
etc then here is the public key, just that I won't be able to read it
as I don't have the private key! --- Actually it's just a whitespace.
There's a few remotely boring things in there. I might do something
with them one day. Oh and it's still boring. Mmm, timestamps wouldn't
that be a good idea.
Must not forget my Durge
Webspace. Actually do forget it otherwise you'll be scared for
life. Some of the crap people send me, I should just delete it all.
Someone decided to set a mass http downloader off on my dump dir
which didn't set a recurive limit so now that area is password
protected. If you want to access it, you'll have to ask me now.
I should really get a public key sorted, and I'll probably use
GPG instead.
Actually, I've sorted out a GPG key, you'll find it on the usual
key servers. I used the e-mail address at the bottom of the page.
E-mail address Here is a list of my active
e-mail address -- hidden due to damm spammers. Although it's
pointless them spamming me since most of it goes straight into
/dev/null and I don't see it.
Oh like it matters that I hide email address. I'm up to 100
plus spams a day now. Just why oh why. It's not like I read the
spam, it just gets deleted without me knowing. Pointful eh.
Debian GNU/Linux - Which is simply a great Operating System
I also play around with OpenBSD for the simple reason that I want to
have a valid reason to wear one of their T-shirts - I have finally
ordered one. 30/09/03. It finally arrived at some point. About 6
weeks afterwards, since I think they ran out of stock. And I got a
load of other goodies in the package.
I've started using OpenBSD on the desktop, and it's rather clean
like the rest of the OS really. Once I work out how everything
works it might replace my current Debian Sarge machine.
Well it's been ages since I looked at OpenBSD on the desktop. I
recently installed 3.9 and it worked like a dream, I'm very
impressed. There's also
www.desktopbsd.net which looks very interesting.
vi - I use vi and I *like* it. Lots of people say it's sick, but it
allows me to get the job done nice and fast. Funny enough I'm using
emacs to write this webpage. I hardly use emacs
But what's even better is 'ed'
9wm - The Plan 9 windows manager. Oh yes that's another sick thing I
like. It's a very minilist windows manager from the Plan 9 Operating
System. Quite an interesting OS, so that might get added to my 'Thing
I play with' list. One thing I have found is that it's a pain to use
with The GIMP.
w9wm - It's like 9wm but has a hack in it to give you 4 desktops. It
was most interesting watching one of my mates tried to use this windows
manager.
ratpoison - no not the stuff to kill rats, it's another WM. Just like
screen but with an X add on.
But if you want to use something more conventional then give Fluxbox a
go. It's based on Blackbox which is a lightweight windows manager. But
it's more useful.
I get about 100 spams a day now. Just why oh why. It's not like I
read the spam, it just gets deleted without me knowing. Pointful
eh.
What do I do with my life
Well this being a new section in my cupboard. Well my second
sub-basement I suppose. There isn't much in it. Although as with
this page it'll probably grow and mature like the rest of it.
At some point in time I'll put all my Engineering note on the web,
so that these poor lambs to the slaughter have something useful to
help them avoid 8 hours of lectures per day. Well not quite that
many lectures, but it certainly feels like it. And since the number
of lectures you have been to is directly proportional to your exam
result you're best off going to them all. Even if you fall asleep in
them. And it would make me feel like was doing something useful with
all those notes I have taken in my life.
The lastest thing I have started doing with my life is starting a
new degree. That being Natural Sciences,
http://www.dur.ac.uk/natural.sciences/
.
It's a rather nice degree programme where you pick and mix from
mainly from the Faculty of Science. Personally I think everyone
should start of doing Natural Sciences (or NatSci as people refer to
it). It's very flexible and basically lets you study what you want to
do. I'm a first year, again, taking Maths, Core A, Core B1, Core B2;
Computer Science, Introductory to Programming, Formal Aspects of
Computer Science. At the end of my second year I have three options,
being able to stick with NatSci, or move into either Maths Single
Honours, or CompSci.
I've now transfered to single hounors Maths.
I still can't work out what I should do next year.
I used to study General Engineering at Durham. Quite simply don't do
it. Apply to do something more rewarding like Physics, or Maths, or
whatever. Even apply to do straight Electronic Engineering at another
University. If you have started on the General Engineering degree,
change as soon as possible, unless you want to become an accountant.
As it's a great degree to gear you up for such a job. Lots and lots of
work, pressure to get it done on time. Being punished for not doing
well by giving you extra work. Not like you already have too much to do
anyway. And of course wishing you never took that route whilst
wondering how to get your soul back.
Now I didn't expect I'd write that much in first adding this section.
Things I play with
perl - it a nice slack laugage, but I seem to prefer bash for
scripts. One day I might get around with learning Python.
sumobot - I've made an IRC bot, which is my first irc bot. Well the
first one that isn't a straight rip of the Net::IRC example.
You can find it at
develbot.pl.txt.
Probably not the best perl in the world, but it was my first proper
perl coding. I've also started work on another bot which takes stats
of a channel without storing a log of what has being said. Especially
useful as some people say lots of thinks that they don't mean. And
some that do mean it but probably don't want the whole world to know
about it.
There's another IRC bot kicking about. It's a statsbot and produces
the hash-durge-an-nal. Unlike other IRC stats bots that store all the
lines people says, this one just counts lines then stores them in a
file. Hopefully I'll get some time at some point to make it cope with
multiple channels. Although I managed to create a nasty bug that I
could not pin down.
486s oh yes, those old useless boxen. I like installing stuff on them,
and see what I can make them do. I'm always tring to source 486's and
even pentiums as time goes on. I'm also thinking about putting a 486
mp3/ogg player together build out of a 486 with a 20Mb hard drive. It
appears that the hard drive (actually 40Mb) is dead, as you can't
write to the disk. Well you can but you can't read it again.
One of them took a trip the other day. I'll have to wait until I
return home to see if it has died.
hummm, can't think of anything else at the moment, I'll add them when
I remember what I do
Oh yes, I play with Kathryn lots.
networks - ooo just about anything, especially if it isn't standard
or involves something crazy
